We analysed the open register of Ukraine's Ministry of Internal Affairs — every first registration of a used passenger car imported from abroad between January and August 2026. The total: 157,959 cars. Over the same period of 2025 it was 153,103, so the market grew by about 3%.
The big shift is origin. Cars from the US and Canada (VINs starting with digits 1–5) — 42,323, up 20% year on year (35,202). Their share of used imports is 27%. Germany is still first with 49,313 cars, but growth there is close to zero.
The best month was July: 23,089 used passenger cars imported, 6,647 of them from the US. August was slightly lower — 21,220 and 5,914.
What comes from the US. Top-10 models: Volkswagen Tiguan (3,594), Ford Escape (3,163), Tesla Model 3 (2,142), Nissan Rogue (1,966), BMW X3 (1,665), Jeep Compass (1,570), Ford Edge (1,525), BMW X5 (1,480), Jeep Cherokee (1,407), Volkswagen Passat (1,403). Crossovers and SUVs take seven of the ten spots.
Average age. 'Americans' — 6.5 years, 'Japanese' — 7.1, 'Koreans' — 8.8, 'Germans' — 11.4. In other words, the US supplies fresh cars that hit the auction after a crash, while Germany supplies old cars with a normal history.
What it means for a buyer. One in four used cars that appeared on the Ukrainian market this year has a US auction history — with damage photos and a title type. It can be seen by VIN for free, and that is where a check should start.
