According to the open MIA register, in January 2026 Ukraine imported 2,536 used passenger cars with an electric drive (EVs and hybrids), and in August already 5,838. Growth through the year is almost uninterrupted: 3,156 in March, 4,246 in May, 5,689 in July.
Leaders over eight months: Nissan Leaf — 2,361, Tesla Model Y — 2,327, Tesla Model 3 — 2,179, Kia Niro — 1,185, Renault Zoe — 791, Hyundai Ioniq 5 — 638. Among hybrids the most popular are Ford Escape (781) and Ford Fusion (739).
Almost all Teslas and a large share of Leafs and Niros come from the US. Here is the catch: a crashed EV is cheap at auction not only because of the body. A battery can have damaged modules after an impact that show up later.
What to look at in an EV's history. The loss type on the lot: 'Flood' is the worst case for an EV — a high-voltage battery after water is unpredictable. Photos of the underbody and sills — that's where the battery is. Mileage — for a Tesla it is also a proxy for battery degradation.
At the inspection: a battery health report (Tesla shows it in the service menu, Leaf has apps), charge balance, high-voltage fault codes on a scanner, signs that the battery pack was opened.
